Fibula - small, thin bone between the knee and ankle
Tibia - large, thick bone between the knee and ankle
Talus - bone at the base of the tibia

X-Rays of my right foot

After surgery #1

After surgery #1 - zoom
You can see that the fibula ( small bone on the left ) has a defined break and is mended with a plate and seven screws.  The tibia and talus are in poor shape and a bone graft / more work is needed.

After surgery #1 - oops
When the fixator pin was inserted into the tibia (big bone on the right) it was inserted too far and had contacted the fibula leaving a mark.  After x-raying it was backed out (all had taken place during the first operation) to the depth shown in this x-ray.

After surgery #2
Notice the fibula that had to be broken ( in a different spot from the initial break ) so that the leg could be "shortened" a bit ( less than 1 inch ).

The below three pictures are about the same as the above three - just a slightly different angle.

Currently, 12 Sept 2001, the concern is for the talus as it appears to be dying.  All is not lost and work will be done to help it along.  The talus, in this picture, is near the bottom center and has two pins in it that look like a " V ".
