Medano Pass, Great Sand Dunes, Zapata Falls

Leave Fort Collins at 7am. Drive to Westcliffe CO for an 11am gathering of the group (four vehicles, eight people). Drive from Westcliffe as a group to the trailhead. Up and over the pass, set camp, drive to the dunes and then back to camp. The rest of the group decided to head back up trail the way we came in though I wished to push on to Zapata Falls. Back to the dunes and out to asphalt several miles to the falls. Hike the 1/2 mile walk to the falls - a quick visit - then start the long slog to home. |
