June 13 - 21, 2023
Canyonlands N.P. Maze District, Cathedral Valley, Bryce N.P.

Friday, June 16

Today will be a bit of a deviation from plans (I don't recall what the plans were - Maze Overlook perhaps) but a call will be made to forest service to see if we can change reservations / plans. Why - when the trip was originally booked to the travel speeds - we didn't think we would have enough time to travel between a couple campsites. The change was possible and readily tended. Our destination today will be the Dollhouse 1 & 2 campsites.

The Neck and Dollhouse are, to me so far, my preferred sites. Sunset Pass and Standing Rock - not so much. Maze Overlook - in the middle between preferred and not-so-much.

We will backtrack a fair bit this morning before getting to the "south intersection" to head northeast to Dollhouse.

Outhouse views - this one high on the list

From The Neck camp - walking across the road, looking west.

Unpacking the Starlink to make a phone call to the forest service - we're looking to see if we can change campsite reservations. Yes!

Leaving The Neck / Happy Canyon

Dropping down the switchbacks

This might be the wash that is a shortcut, shaving two miles, so we don't have to travel down to the south intersection before turning to Dollhouse / Standing Rock.

Alway nice to see desert flowers

A short, smooth section for 2-High travel (save a bit of gas too)

Now into the slower section with ups-n-downs, twists-n-turns.

The Step (as I call it)

Spots like this has the group taking a bit of time. I believe this is the only significant issue between south intersection and The Wall / Standing Rock. There is a smaller obstacle between Standing Rock and Dollhouse - but it's not of much concern.

This rocky area reminds me of the spot a newer, two-door Jeep Wrangler FULLY burned.

In the background - snow capped La Sal mountains east of Moab

These photos are near The Wall / Standing Rock - deep red rock

Last photo of the day. We'll end up at Dollhouse but no photos today. Tomorrow morning there will be a few.
