Sevenmile Creek & more

Five People, Three Vehicles, One easy going dog.

We met at Ted's Place for fuel and quickly headed west, up the Poudre River Canyon to Rustic for the eastern trailhead for Sevenmile Creek / Road. This was a first visit for me since the forest fires several years ago. We would drive in and out of burned sections of forest. The burned sections offer wide views through the trees but also has greater amount of deadfall. The (already delapitated / no roof) cabin at the western end of the trail looks to have been fully burned with nothing left to the walls.

"Up top" at the western end of the trail we zig-zagged a few of the trails as we had extra time in the day (we made quick work of the trail).

I thought there'd be a tad more snow and "up top" (the extra trails we added at the western end of Sevenmile) if we ventured off the beaten track, there would be more likelihood of getting stuck.

The Poudre River is getting iced

Nearing Rustic - the mountains to the west are cloudy and snowy

On the trail - electric substation just visible to the right of the ahead jeeps

About eight creek crossings

Up a spur to an old mine

Not too much snow - some slick spots but they were of zero concern.

Stump Hill - I've never been - odd to see a closed sign

No picture, today, of the old cabin (nothing left) though here is a photo from Sept 4, 2017 (before the fire)

We're between Red Feather Lakes and Livermore - only a hint of mountain clouds at the right of the photo with blue sky to our east - typical blue sky east of the mountains.

Only a few small clouds.

with only a few more miles east - very few clouds in the sky
